Japan Round Two

I am a traveling fiend.

What was a hobby has seemingly turned into an addictive obsession. Perhaps that is a bit too strong, but compared to the mere 2 trips I was able to take while working at Amity (in 18 months), my current job provides ample time and resources to pursue my... infatuation. Lake Mikata, Hokkaido, Hiroshima, Kyushu and...

Tomorrow I am off to Okinawa for 5 days. It is the Hawaii of Japan and I am looking forward to sitting on the beach and doing nothing more strenuous than picking up my pina colada. I can hear the travel enthusiasts out there heckling my idea of traveling. "That is a vacation, not traveling!" they scream. "Traveling means learning about the culture, experiencing it, meeting the people, eating the food. Sitting on a beach you will experience nothing!"

They mock me as a traveler (or would if they ever read this blog, unlikely as it seems). So in my own defense I would like to say that we all need a vacation from time to time. Also the last 2 days of the trip will be spent exploring and traveling and sightseeing (not on the beach). I suppose as nice as the beach seems my attention span is too short to sit for very long. I will blame this on not having the proper training to sit on a beach for extended periods of time. As soon as I invest in my own little South Pacific Island I will begin my training in earnest.

The most exciting trip coming up though (well, after Okinawa) is when I leave Japan. I am planning a trip that will take me from Japan to Scotland by train (and the occassional ferry) in 2 months. The current travel route is: Japan, China, Mongolia, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Romania, Hungary, Vienna, Cheque Republic, Germany, Belguim, Luxembourg, Holland, England, and Scotland. With a schedule like that I am sure you can all understand how my hobby turned into a lifestyle. Now if I could just find someone who would pay me to travel...
